mixtum sounds

Mixtum sounds are sounds created for each one of the Mixtum symbols.  The sounds are all either in the same key or are percussive, enabling them to be randomly played together to create surprising and not-too-dissonant combinations.  The ways in which these symbols were musically interpreted vary in interesting ways.  Some are more literal or abstract than others.

The contributing musicians are: Lesser Gonzales Alvarez, Max Bent, Benny Boeltd, Andrew Crisp, Amy Dasilva, James DiLisio, William Goode, Geoff Grace, Yutaka Houlette, Michael Lambright, Justin Levy, Sam Liu, Justin Lucas, Amanda Matles, Wheatie Mattiasich, Lexie Mountain, Nests, Emmanuel Nicolaidis, Max Olson, Scott Opirhory, Jared Paolini, Peaks, Patrick Rife, Stephen Santillan, Gabe Snyder, Ben Turner, Dustin Wong.

Baltimore musician, Patrick Rife (one of the contributors), has recently taken on an interesting project that makes use of the Mixtum sounds. Here is how he describes it:

I was asked to employ the Mixtum sound catalogue in making some sound compositions. As it sits in my mind, I always find order to be a guiding light. I’ve chosen to compose twenty six pieces that will represent a trip through the alphabet; albeit in the shadow of the French language. So many of us are rooted deeply in the Latin soil. It is a treat, that game of etymology. One I am always curious to play. Enjoy yourselves, and these sounds, starting December 1, they will appear each day.
